For depression that hasn’t responded to the usual treatments.
You have done the things you were supposed to do. Tried the medication. Maybe more than one. Showed up to therapy. And the weight has not lifted the way you hoped it would.
That is not a failure of effort, and it does not mean nothing will work. Some people need a different kind of help than a standard prescription and a weekly session. Medication-assisted therapy combines psychotherapy with a medication given under medical supervision, in a longer and more carefully held session than ordinary therapy.
Or call us — we are happy to talk it through first. (410) 498-6833

Before anything else, a conversation. No commitment, no pressure, and no obligation to move forward. If we do not think it is a reasonable fit, we will say so.
We respond within one business day. Your information stays confidential and HIPAA-protected.
Wellness Space Counseling is a group practice in Columbia, Maryland. We provide psychotherapy for individuals, couples and teens, and our clinicians are trained in trauma-focused and evidence-based approaches including EMDR, somatic therapy and Internal Family Systems.
Medication-assisted therapy sits alongside that work rather than replacing it. It is offered to a specific group of clients, after an assessment, when our clinical team believes it is a reasonable fit.
This work asks for a lot of trust, and it should. You will be in a vulnerable state in a long session, and who is in the room matters.
Every clinician involved is licensed in Maryland, and a medical provider oversees every session.
Not sure who would be the right fit? That is exactly what the free consultation is for — tell us what is going on, and we will match you with the clinician whose training fits what you need.
Fill in the form or call. It takes two minutes.
A free 15-minute call to hear what you have been dealing with and what you have already tried, and to answer your questions honestly — including about the medication and its risks.
If it sounds like a possible fit, you meet with our team to go through your history, your current medications and your health. Not everyone is a good candidate, and we will tell you plainly.
Nothing is scheduled until your questions are answered and you have chosen to go ahead.
This is not a clinic where you receive a treatment and go home. The therapy is the point; the medication supports it.
Before anything is scheduled, you meet with our team to talk through your history, what you have already tried, your current medications and your health. Not everyone is a good candidate, and we will tell you plainly if we do not think this is right for you.
You and your therapist spend time before the first session getting clear on what you are hoping to work on, what the experience is like, and how you would like to be supported during it.
Sessions are considerably longer than a standard therapy hour and take place in our office, with a clinician present and monitoring you throughout. You are never left alone.
The session after matters as much as the session itself. You meet with your therapist to make sense of what came up and turn it into something usable in your life.
We work at two different levels, and which one fits you is a clinical decision made with you, not for you.
Your clinician will go through this with you in detail on your consultation — what it is, how it is given, how it works, what the risks and side effects are, and what the evidence does and does not show. We would rather have that conversation properly with a clinician than summarise it on a web page.
Typically adults whose depression has not responded adequately to standard antidepressants or talk therapy alone. Suitability depends on your medical history, current medications and other factors, which is what the assessment is for. Some people are not appropriate candidates, and we will tell you.
No. The therapy is the centre of it. The medication supports the therapeutic work — it does not replace it, and we do not offer it on its own.
Considerably longer than a standard therapy hour. Your clinician will give you exact timing so you can plan your day, including arranging a ride home.
Yes. You will not be able to drive yourself after a session. We will go over all of this before your first appointment.
Wellness Space Counseling is a private pay practice. We do not bill insurance directly, which keeps your care free from insurance restrictions and lets us tailor treatment to you. On request we can provide a superbill you may submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement, and we will be upfront about rates on your consultation.
Yes. Sessions are confidential and HIPAA-protected, with the narrow legal exceptions your clinician will walk you through at the start.
